Well, again I hauled my old carcass in good old Finland, this time for a symposium in Tampere concerning translation and "transnationality". It was both an opportunity for me to present part of my ongoing research in anthropology and the chance to meet some of my Finnnish friends.
The schedule has been quite hectic up until the Saturday morning when I gave my lecture on translation in Savo Finnish, and the week-end in Tampere was one of the most fruitful I have ever experienced, so in that respect I am more than satisfied. I am now in Helsinki enjoying the nice weather and will get back on this blog to talk about my feelings for Tampere and my (too) short trip to Oulu.
As an aside. Several epidemiologists must be smiling with glee: they finally have their flu epidemic. Now's their chance to say: "We told ya so!". Of course, this could prove as bad as the SARS, meaning not as bad. Who knows?
